You Will Be Responsible For:
Assists the radiologist, cardiologist, or attending physician performing sterile procedures (i.e., prep and draping patient, scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, sheath pull during invasive procedures). Adheres to approve standards (AORN) of sterile/aseptic technique utilizing equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner.
Competent in a minimum of two of three Team roles (scrub-circulate-monitor) for Cardiac and Radiological Diagnostic Angiography and Cardiac and Radiological interventions including angioplasty, stent, atherectomy, pacemaker procedures.
Monitors, recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic/hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure, including pre and post care.
Demonstrates ability to operate, problem-solve and improvise common equipment malfunctions including the Toshiba and GE interventional angiography systems, Emageon Hemodynamic System, PACS, Angiojet, IABP, Femstop, TRBand, IVUS, ACT, and AVOX.
May perform general noninvasive cardiology procedures; EKG’s, tilt table exams, holter scanning, etc. (if within scope of practice for the individuals certification and trained.)
Responsible for taking call and responding to requests for callback on a rotating basis.
Performs emergency procedures (i.e., ACLS protocol, defibrillation, etc.) as appropriate – under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Provides relevant patient and family education as well as emotional support as appropriate.
Collects, evaluates and assists in PI program, demonstrating progress towards benchmark.
Completes all necessary documentation in Cerner and in Camtronics, interdisciplinary note and patient assessment and completes all related charges.
Performs and documents accurate initial assessment per unit standard which may include: initial observation, obtaining and interpreting information in terms of the patient’s needs, safety, discharge planning, psych/social/cultural, family needs, multi-system physical assessment, patient/family level of knowledge and readiness to learn about disease process and care requirements. Reports appropriate information in a timely manner to responsible physician and/or supervisor as appropriate.
Performs medication reconciliation for all outpatients by reviewing home medications with patient prior to the administration of sedatives.
Observes and monitors patient lab work for trends and reports abnormal lab tests to the appropriate physician and obtains appropriate orders for interventions.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability in the preparation of patients for tests and procedures ordered.
Demonstrates critical-thinking skills when analyzing basic and advanced cardiac rhythms in a safe, competent and independent manner.
Plans for and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for the patient, assisting with the cleaning of rooms, restocking, and updating supplies.
Will be assigned tasks, within scope of practice, by the lead or manager and expected to perform those tasks proficiently and in a timely manner.
Must be able to provide manual hemostasis and assist the RN in pre and post op care of the patient.
Demonstrates ability to operate, problem-solve and improvise common equipment malfunctions.
Demonstrates ability to learn and practice new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions and familiarizing self with new procedure revisions as they occur.
Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to insure radiation safety to self, fellow employees, visitors and physicians.
Always demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others by wearing protective equipment as required.
Accompanies patient to his/her room if needed and gives full report to receiving RN if monitoring.
Provides procedural sedation (if trained to do so and within scope of care for their individual certification) in a professional, competent, and safe manner to all radiologic and cardiac patients. Must maintain appropriate competencies and continuing education.
Graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, or Cardiovascular Program
A minimum of two years hospital experience in invasive cardiology and radiology procedures with a minimum of 500 hours of work experience in a Level II PCI licensed lab (High volume PCI lab with on site open heart facilities OR have completed a minimum of 500 hours of training in a Level II PCI facility as part of a formal training program.
Must have experience in hemodynamic monitoring to include pressure and waveform recognition, cardiac arrhythmia recognition and cardiac pharmacology.
Current State of Florida licensure as applicable to discipline specialty
ACLS and BLS certification required, basic EKG certification
The Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist has been specially trained in cardiac/radiological procedures and techniques and is part of the cardiac/radiological team. Uses the skills of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in their patient care delivery. Primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost-effective care. Provides routine, emergent and critical cardiac diagnostics/interventional and radiology interventional procedures. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all the rules and regulations of local, state and federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
