The Medical Care Transportation Technician (MCTT) position is located within the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Nursing Operations. The incumbent performs triage within the prehospital arena and ongoing patient care duties during patient transport. The MCTT will perform a variety of duties to support Nursing Operations. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/29/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge and application of an extensive body of transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and resolve a wide range of problems; knowledge of validation, control and maintaining accounting records for many travel accounts and make frequent dollar amount adjustments of those accounts; ensuring accurate, timely and consistent information is entered into the appropriate database; determining eligibility for the program, and processing requests. Driving Requirement: Applicants must possess a current and valid state drivers license. Certification: Candidates must possess current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). Certification: Candidates must possess certification as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician. Failure to Obtain Certification: In all cases, MCTTs must actively pursue meeting prerequisites for certification and licensure from the date of their appointment. The incumbent makes independent triage decisions based on assessment and management skills for all prehospital patients. Screens patient health history, complaints, medications, and identify health related conditions that may impact the patient's health status. The MCTT will transport patients in need of Advanced Life Support level care to and from various locations in support of the VTS Special Mode Transportation mission. Transport patient to/from inpatient units, diagnostic studies, and transport lab specimens to the lab. Performs assessments to obtain patient history, status of patient's neurological system, cardiovascular system, circulatory system, skeletal system, orthopedic system, motor and sensory skills, and level of consciousness for the purpose of safe transport. Must possess valid state driver's license. Must maintain current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Administer Basic and Advanced life support care in accordance with established medical standards, which may include providing CPR, manual defibrillation, and/or medications. . Assist in transporting non-ambulatory patients as directed. Incumbent will ensure all safety protocols for these particular patient groups are followed throughout the transport. Skills needed in emergency communication techniques and the operation of communications equipment to accurately obtain and relay information to and from dispatchers and/or health care providers. Conducts or assists with the training of personnel in CPR, basic and advanced emergency medical care techniques and EMS awareness programs. Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Meets the physical demands (heavy moving, repositioning, and lifting of patients) for extended periods of time. Generally, requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, and stretching to position patients.
