Job Summary
Provides radiation support duties to support the objectives of the Medical Health Physics Department.
Job Duties
- Performs audits of Nuclear Medicine Departments, for regulatory compliance and radiation Safety.
- Provides oversight of radiation safety support for the radioiodine thyroid ablation program, as well as liver and prostate brachytherapies.
- Interfaces with the Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology departments to ensure patients receive all necessary information, counsels patients as needed, prepares outpatient and inpatient rooms for contamination control, oversees administration of radioactive materials, monitors radiological environment, decontaminates and releases room for unrestricted use following the procedure.
- Oversees the personnel monitoring program.
- Manages badge exchanges, ensures accuracy of shipment and pricing, reviews dosimetry reports and prepares summaries of results.
- Maintains an effective vendor and end-user relationship.
- Prepares interdepartmental invoices, history correspondence and other documentation required by the program.
- Provides oversight of fluoroscopy dose tracking program to include trigger monitoring, reporting and monthly summary reports.
- Provides primary support for the receipt and processing of any radioactive material shipments.
- Prepares and tracks inventory and disposal sheets for each shipment.
- Delivers packages to end-user.
- Investigates missing or incorrect shipments.
- Provides radiation safety support to the Weis Center for Research.
- Performs radioisotope lab surveys, radioisotope package receipt, and inspection.
- Performs maintenance of radioactive waste facility, collection and processing of radioactive waste packages, inspects research irradiators and x-ray producing machines.
- Assists in the calibration of survey instruments, stationary lab instruments and portal monitors at the required frequency.
- Manages the quality control program for lead protective equipment, including testing, inventory and removal from service when warranted.
- Maintains the order and housekeeping of radioactive waste storage facilities.
- Collects, segregates and stores radioactive waste properly.
