PURPOSE OF POSITION: To learn to perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations and to learn to assist in analyzing the data for interpretation within the Cardiology department of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants; children and adolescents.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Learn/Grow in Proficiency & Expertise Attend educational sessions as indicated by the director. Read assignments (e.g. textbooks and journals) as indicated by director. Gradually, assume on-call responsibilities for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units for University Hospital, Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and others as directed. Assist with research projects as needed. Prepare for registry examination in pediatric echocardiography.
Perform Cardiac Ultrasound Exams Prepare patients and/or parents psychologically and physically for echocardiogram. Perform the cardiac ultrasound examination as ordered by the physician, including M-MODE, 2D Doppler and Color Flow Mapping. Follow OSHA/JCAHO Health & Safety Training Guidelines.
Report & Analyze Exam Results Provide a verbal report to the Echocardiography Faculty. Analyze the data and review results with the Echocardiac Laboratory Faculty for final interpretation. Maintain patients' records and echocardiographic laboratory logs in database. Assist with research projects as needed.
Equipment Maintain equipment by cleaning scan heads and Electrocardiogram (EKG) lead wires after each patient and following the guidelines of the infection disease committee.
Teamwork Share knowledge and provide technical support for one another. Assume on-call responsibilities for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units for University Hospital, the Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and others as directed. Assist with the training of cardiology fellow or visitors.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Medical Sonography and/or previous work experience as a cardiac sonographer.
Preferred:
ARDMS or CCI registered. Certification required within 18 months of hire.
