Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking a Division Chief of Hematology to serve in the Cancer and Blood Disorders Institute (CBDI).  JHACH is a 259-bed teaching hospital, just ranked as a U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital (2023-2024) in 7 pediatric specialties, including cancer (#31) . We were also ranked as the #1 Children’s Hospital in Florida. JHACH is the only US hospital outside the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. location that is part of the Johns Hopkins Medicine system.   

The CBDI encompasses the divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant. The CBDI is one of the 4 clinical institutes, and is a dynamic component of the JHACH, comprised of pediatric hematologist/oncologists, blood/marrow transplanters, transfusion medicine experts, basic, translational, and clinical scientists, and specialized advanced practice providers. The institute has 26 faculty members including 4 basic research scientists. The Hematology Division has 7 faculty members and would report to the Division Chief. The division encompasses a medium sized Sickle Cell Disease Program, a Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, Thrombosis Program, Benign Hematology Program, and Vascular Anomalies Program.    The Hematology Division Chief would report directly to the Director of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Institute. The Hematology Division Chief will have clinical and translation research expertise as a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist with a record of academic scholarship, and will hold a faculty appointment with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Supervise all clinical work in the hematology division
• Report directly to the CBDI institute director
• Serves as a primary mentor to multiple clinical research trainees in JHACH’s fellowship programs org-wide (i.e., across multiple Departments and Institutes, outside of the faculty member’s primary subspecialty)
• Reviews credentialing files and FPPE of all members of the Hematology Division
• Serves on the Executive Council of CBDI
• Addresses HERO and safety concerns in the Hematology Division
• Reviews OPPE documentation for Hematology Division Members
• Promotes and models key cultural tenets, including (but not limited to):

o             Service excellence, with a focus on patients (children) and families

o             Transparency

o             Inclusiveness and diversity

• Employee recognition, engagement and empowerment to voice concerns and be heard.

• Design, plan, and execute independent research/projects in area of expertise.
• Works with JHACH Foundation to seek funding to support independent research and the CBDI research program.
• Mentors faculty and fellows in development of areas of clinical/translational research
• Promote scientific discussion within the Institute/community and contribute to research initiatives.
• Assists CBDI Institute Director to facilitate connections with external stakeholders, e.g., investigators and vendors. Contribute to building relationships with significant external partnerships/institutions (e.g., business alliance partners, academic institutions) in order to advance clinical studies and programs.
• Serve on CBDI Research Council in partnership with core research faculty, including prioritization efforts across the portfolio and ensuring research progress on deliverables and data interpretation/review.

The successful candidate will also:

Qualifications:

• MD or DO required.
• 5+ relevant years’ experience in clinical and translational research, with a strong track record of research productivity with respect to publication and funding.
